PRICES FOR OX BEEF FURTHER FRANKTON RISE FAT SHEEP MARKET FIRM An even higher level for ox beef wee established at the Frankton stock sale to-day, when best steers sold from £ls to £lB and from 38s to 42s per 100 lbs. Today’s values represented a rise of 10s to 20s per head and approximately 3s per 100 lbs. The fat sheep market was firm although In some cases values showed a further advance. The market opened cautiously for ox beef and values over the first few pens were not up to the high level of last week but competition became keener as the sale progressed and prices, ranging from £ls to £lB. were readily given for prime pens. The top price of £lB represented an increase of 22s 6d on the top sale of last week, which was the highest figure recorded at the yards for over eight years. Very few pens sold below £l4, the bulk of the entries being cleared at from £ls to £l6 10s. Cows and heifers were also In keen request and -prices from £9 to £lO were frequent over the early sales. Extra choice cows and heifers made from £lO 5s to £l3 2s 6d. A keen demand was again apparent for wethers, top lines selling at from 45s to 51s 6d as against 44s to 50s last week. Ewes were very firm and all descriptions met animated competition. Fat hoggets were dearer in most cases. Fat pigs were sharp of sale and values were firm to higher. Quotations: Prime steers, £ls 15s to £18; lighter prime, £l4 to £ls ss: small, £l2 to £l3 7s 6d; fat cows, £8 7s 6d to £10; extra choice cows and heifers, £lO 5s to £l3 2s 6d. Mutton (per head) : Extra prime wethers, 45s to 49s 6d; fat wethers, 39s to 43s 6d; unfinished wethers, 34s 6d to 355; extra prime ewes, 34s to 39s 6d! fat ewes, 35s to 335; unfinished ewes, 20s to 24s 6d; fat hoggets, 30s 6d to 355; lighter, 27s to 29s 6d. Pigs (per head) : Baconers, 60s to 935; porkers, 40s to 60s.
