INTERESTING CRICKET.
HAMPSHIRE-NEW ZEALAND VIVIAN’S BRILLIANT BATTING VISITORS OUT FOR 324 RUNS (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the team.) (Received Aug. 24, 3.15 p.m.) BOURNEMOUTH, August 23. The weather was fine and the wicket in good order for the resumption of the match between New Zealand and Hampshire at Bournemouth to-day. It was a day of Interesting cricket. Batting first the county made 421, the visitors replying with 324. In their second innings Hampshire have lost one wicket for 49 runs. Vivian, who is now batting better than in any other part of the tour, brilliantly compiled his first century cn the tour and reached 1.000 runs in first-class matches. He drove exceptionally hard, cut and pulled strongly, hitting two sixes with straight ondrives and eleven fours. He reached his century in 150 minutes against steady bowling, supported by smart fielding. Herman and Heath, a fastlsh bowler, who showed plenty of life at the crease, bowled accurate left-hand slows. Moloney helped the partnership, which was worth 97 runs. New Zealand had five wickets down for 169 runs but a fine partnership between Weir and Carson added 112. Carson Plays Soundly. Carson played very soundly, his score including five fours, all off strong leg hits. Weir was workmanlike, driving cleanly and placing well on the leg side. The light faded quickly after tea and New Zealand lost the last five wickets quickly, against steady bowling of Creese. Hampshire batted half an hour. The New Zealanders were a popular attraction at Bournemouth on Saturday, over 4000 people paying £224. This was a record for the ground for the season. This was eclipsed to-day, when over 5,500 paid over £2BO.* A lavish entertainment programme for the.team included attendance's at international variety shows, where starre'd performers were Billy Cotton’s band and Stanley Holloway.
