THE AIR RACE.
BITTER OOMMENT IN FRANCE SUPERIORITY OF ITALIAN PLANES RESULT A SEVERE LESSON aired P-«ss Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received August 24. 11.50 a.m.) LONDON, August 23 The Paris correspondent of the Times says that the striking superiority of the Italian aeroplanes, which were equipped with Alfa Romeo engines, over the French machines, in the French Ministry’s air race to Damascus and back, has aroused bitter comment. Though the French aeroplanes were commercial and the Italian ones military, the result is regarded as a severe lesson in the lack of preparation and co-operation. Inferior material is blamed by the Right Press, which declares thvt France’s best pilots were betrayed by defects due to the Socialist direction of the Air Ministry and the Socialist Labour legislation.
