Hamilton, to-day. when charging Herbert Davis Parker, a farmhand. of Hamilton, with permitting a bicycle to be towed by another vehicle. The Senior-Sergeant stated that he was not pressing for a penalty as defendant had been seriously injured. and lie considered that that would be sufficient warning. Under the circumstances the Bench. Messrs G. W. Hyde and G. K. Sinclair. J's. P.. convicted defendant and ordered hi;n to pay £1 2s costs. Francis Eric Fowler said that he was at a party on the night of June 14 and left at the same time as defendant. Witness was seated in the back of a motor lorry driven by his brother and saw defendant, who was riding a bicycle. grasp the back of ffie lorry so as lo obtain a tow. Witness warned defendant that it was dangerous nnd advised him to let go. He thought d«fendant tiad taken Ills advice, but after the lorry had travelled about half-a-mile he heard a crash and defendant fell to the roadway. The police said there was no evidence of defendant being intoxicated. He suffered serious injuries, from which lie hail only just recovered.
