EARLIER PAY DAY.
POSTAL EMPLOYEES. RE-CLASSIFICATION QUESTION. (Special to Times.) PALMERSTON N., Sunday. Speaking on Saturday evening at the annual re-union of the Manawatu section of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, the PostmasterGeneral. the Hon. F. Jones, stated tha t t as the Government believed it was necessary for the housewife to go shopping on Friday, it was arranging that the. fortnightly pay-day for Post and Telegraph Department employees would be Thursday. “ l anticipate the introduction of the first Thursday pay-day about September 9 or September 16." said Mr Jones. “ The initial amount may be reduced, as it would coyer only nine days, to get tho new scheme into operation, and wages will he paid every two weeks after that. Referring to appeals made by employees. the Minister said that until now officers had been compelled to lodge a fee of 10s 6d for every appeal they made, and when there were two or throe appeals entered each cost 10s 6d. That was to he abolished.
