The Japanese air forces took advantage of a full moon to raid many distant Chinese bases at Kwantung. The air force of Manchukuo bombed the aerodrome, wireless station and Government buildings at Kalgan, and assisted’ an Inner Mongol force against Chinese troops. Six Japanese ’planes dropped a dozen bombs at Nanking. Others heavily damaged the aerodrome at Siackwan, 30 miles to the north-west. The important airbase at Kiukiang suffered severely. An aircraft factory at Kienkiao was bombed and 10 ’planes destroyed. Chuchow was bombed after infantry, supported by artillery, had crossed the flooded rivers. They demoralised and routed 5000 Chinese from fortified hillside positions. Tho Kwantung army is co-operating in the operations against the Japanese right flank in North China, attacking 3000 Chinese who had crossed the Great Wall into Inner Mongolia. The Japanese drove them out and occupied the wall at Kalgan.
