WHATAWHATA NEWS.
GIFT AFTERNOON. A very delightful party was held at the residence of Mrs J. Kempthorne at Whatawhata recently, when Miss Gladys Kempthorne and Miss Wynn Rothwell gave a gift afternoon in honour of Miss Myrtle Carpenter. The guest of honour was wearing a nigger brown ensemble and the hostesses, Misses Kempthorne and Rothwell, received the guests wearing a brick red tunic frock and grey ensemble relieved with navy and white spotted crepe respectively. Mrs J. Kempthorne was wearing navy crepe. The afternoon passed very pleasantly, several interesting competitions being held, the winers of these being Mesdames A. Rowe, II- Fenn, S. Russell, and Misses M. Carpenter, P. Snell. S. Eyne, A. Adolph and M. Egan. After afternoon tea Miss Carpenter was asked to open the many gift parcels. She suitably responded, after which she was accorded musical honours. Among those present were:—Mesdames J. Kempthorne. E. Carpenter, McDell, senior (Frankton), A.
