FIRMER MARKET.

VALUES AT MORRINSVII.LI . KEEN TRADE FOR SHEEP. FAT CATTLE IN REQUEST. Although values once again advanced for fat cattle and sheep at the weekly JlorrinsviUe stock sale yesterday, the rise was not as spectacular as those recorded at the Frankton y ards on Tuesday and rates were not very much in excess of the higher rates recorded at the same sale the previous Friday. There were no outstanding quality cattle on offer and consequently sale figures were not up to the level of those recorded at the central yards. Fat cattle were on offer in average numbers with only one line of bullocks. The latter were comparatively good buying at £l2 17s thl, and certainly would have made a higher figure at Tuesday's sale at Frankton. A few pens of extra choice cows and heifers were in animated request at prices ranging from £lO to £l3 2s fi.l with medium prime sorts being traded from £8 to £9 10s. All lines of secondary quality and boner classes changed hands readily and it was not difficult to auction them at firm to higher rates. There was another good bvnoh of buyers for the dairy cattle sale and values generally showed littlo variation. Sheep and Pigs. Bidding was animated in the fat sheep sale and values for all classes advanced sharply on those recorded tne previous Friday. A small line of wothers were good buying at 3Ns, but hoggets, particularly ewe hoggets, wore dearer, lines of ewe hoggets selling from bos to 38s t»d. Several lines of breeding ewes were eagerly sought, one line of 171 two-tooths selling under a brisk demand from -lbs 5d to 4bs 9d. Fat pigs did not meet with the animated sale characteristic, of recent weeks and values tended to ease a shade. The Farmers’ (’o-oporative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report on the sale as follow?: A medium yarding of fat sheep comprising chiefly of hoggets came forward. Competition was keen thimighout and late linn rates were maintained. Owing to the late arrival <#f the special entry of store sheep •from Morrinsville they were hold ov»jr until next week. A mailer yarding of ox beef comprised mostly light weight cattle, for w hich ,>npet it it'll was keen and prices remained very firm. row and heifer l*«ws with* good quality, well-finished I ( petil ion wa? ra tos procaine forward in cxira heavj mini '

hers, these meeting a keen demand, whilst boners showed no change on late, rates. Sound young Jersey cows , and heifers were eagerly sought. The ' j advertised entry of fat and forward cows and heifers attracted a large number of buyers and a keen sale resulted. A lull yarding ol' dairies, comprising chiefly heifers again came forward. The quality generally was not up to that of last week, and competition at the beginning of the sale was dull, but showed a firming tendency as the sale progressed. Values were not up to last week’s high rates, although the market was firm and practically a clearance was effected. The top price of £l2 Bs was realised for a line of choice Shorthorn heifers. The entry of fat pigs this week was the largest seen at Morrinsville this season, with heavy baconers much easier. Buttermilk pigs and porkers maintained late rates and practically a total clearance was effected under the hammer. The store pens were filled to capacity and here again the yarding was disposed of. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Hamilton, report as follows on their Morrinsville stock sale held on Friday:— Cattle.—The market was brisk with | realisations about on a par with last j Tuesday’s advanced price levels at Frankton. Apart from several pens of unfinished Polled Angus and Hereford cows and heifers, the bulk of our entry in the fat section comprised unfinished fat and store Jerseys. Throughout, the bidding was brisk and everything changed hands very freely. A few very plain yearling heifers created a good enquiry, while the demand for a number of medium class dairy cows and heifers was quite good. These brought prices which were quite satisfactory to vendors on the basis of late quotations. We quote: Pen of young Hereford and PolVd Angus unfinished fat cows, £lO 16s; medium to good conditioned Polled Angus beef cows and heifers, £8 7s 6d to £lO Is; lighter, £7 to £8 ss; medium to heavy Jersey cows, £6 8s ( to £7 ss; medium weight Jersey beef ] cows, £5 15s to £6 7s 6d; unfinished I conditioned, £4 10s to £5 7s 6d; for- I ward store Jersey cows, £3 15s to £-1 [ 7s 6d; heavy boners, £2 17s 6d to [ £3 12s 6d; light, up to £2 10s; very j plain yearling heifers, £2 10s to £3 12s; good dairy cows and heifers, £8 5s to £0 15s; plainer ones, up to £7 j Sheep.—The advertised ewes sold j especially well.
