LAND DEVELOPMENT.

BLOCKB IN KING COUNTRY. EXCELLENT PROGRESS MADE. (Special to Times.) TE KUITI. Thursday. Mr W. Robertson, Under-Secretary for Lands and chairman or tho Small Farms Board. Is visiting the Te Kultl district, Inspecting the farm development schemes and the 9400 acres of land near Te Kultl to which it Is proposed to extend operations. When asked j-esterday ir he had any Information In connection with the scheme in tho King Country, Mr Robertson said his business at present was to expedite the commencement of the work on the new blocks. Arrangements bad been made for the erection or camps and In title near future It was hoped to have a large number of men engaged In the reconditioning of holdings which had reverted to tho Crown. Blocks other than those referred to by the Minister recently were being Invest!1 gated and In all probability additional blocks would bo brought under the scheme, said Mr Robertson. Asked ir he had Inspected any of the blocks under development. Mr Robertson replied In the affirmative. adding that he. was very pleased with the progress made. “One thing that stands out Is tho carrying capacity of these areas." he continued. "With proper supervision, top-dressing and stock control it is astonlslihng to observe the carrying capacity. As w« improve the blocks more stock is required, and blocks which were practically carrying no stock a few years ago are now carrying 28,000 sheep, 490 dairy cows, 500 breeding cows, 1005 steers aiid heirers. 149 working horses. 19 hacks and 182 pigs. Tho main thing is stock control and wo have the stock to shirt from block to block as required. From my observation or areas wiohln, say, a radius or 30 miles from Te Kultl I am not afraid of taking on any land where It is possible to Plough. I think our operations so far hava proved this. “On tho whole our organisation In Te Kultl has handled the work well, and 1 look forward wiih confidence to the enlargement or tihe scheme, ’’ concluded Mr Robertson
