It is reported that Trans-Canada Airlines and Pan-American Airwaxs will shortly discuss the establishment of an air service' to link America and Canada with Australia and New Zealand by way of the Arctic. The proposed route would be from Edmonton to Fairbanks, Alaska, and thence by way of Japan and China to Australia and New Zealand. It is stated that this would eliminate llying over the ocean in stages greater than 1200 miles. An arrangement already exists by which Australian and American Airways on the San Francisco-Hongkong service in conjunction with the Aus-tralia-Singapore and Penang-Hong-kong services. Air mails which close in Melbourne on Tuesday each week reach San Francisco a fortnight later. Mails from the American continent reach Melbourne every Friday. LONDON, August 19. A “secret eye” which detects aircraft above clouds or llying at night through l'og lias been produced by a British inventor, who claims that it will prevent collisions at sea. He uses wave-lengths of light longer than infra-red and shorter than radio The approach of objects miles distant is indicated, also their direction.
