One of the best games of the season was provided at Steele, Park on Saturday when the championship leaders, Colts and Kaipaki, mot in the principal fix I uue. Territorially, there was litlle, between Hie two teams, but Colts were, able lo claim just a slight •superiority in circle play, and it was this that enabled them to snatch victory over tiie country team in the final stages of the match. A poop exhibition was provided when Aotea and Old Boys met in the second senior fix I ure on Saturday and neither team seemed I" take the game seriously. Aotea wilh six points is now leading in the Jlouper Gup competition, but this team has drawn a bye for next Saturday. There is still one series of matches to be played. Following is Hie position of the teams in the Hooper Gup competition:
Season’s Standard. There can ho no gainsaying that Hie standard of hockey this season has been the best for several years, and the fluctuating fortunes of the various teams have kept the competition interesting throughout.. The most, disappointing performance has brim lliat of old Boys who, although they had an impressive team on paper, oil.-n failed to itfach expectations. A pleasing feature has been the play of Tokoniiirii, a loam comprising last year’s junior players, for thev offered si mug opposition lo the leading teams •<ml il is apparent that these‘players w II mould inlo a strong leant wilh a 1,1 1!'• m " n ‘ experience. Boyd played another sound game on the outside, while on the other flank Oddy put in some fast runs. UK-hard-working trio in the forward division and thoroughly tested Colls’ defence. The centre half, C. Bones, was playing well until lie got, a bad knock on the knee when making a line save in front of the goal. The other Kaipaki hacks, particularly F. Bov.l, all plaved well, while, Goodwin was always a safe custodian.
