SPRINGBOKS’ DISPLAY. COMBINED SIDE BEATEN. VISITORS’ WEAKNESSES. (Special to Times.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday. Scoring six tries, two of which wen converted, the Springboks defeated the combined Marlborough, Nelson, Golden Bay. Motueka team to-day by 22 points to 0. The ground was hard and fast and the weather fine. The visitors' performance was on the whole, disappointing. Du Toil and Lawton made tlieir first appearance in the Dominion foil -wing their injuries. Though the Springboks were definitely the superior side, they were not entitled on their play to win by so many points. They disclosed elementary faults in passing and handling that stultified many of their open attacks. They literally had a feast of the ball, their big forwards dominating the set scrums and Ilne-outs. The Springboks won 20 scrums to 7, taking an even number in each spell. Capable tackling was a feature of the Combined team’s play. The Springboks twice missed opening their score when Turner failed from a penalty and Lotz was stopped right on the line. Bad handling and keenness were spoiling play, but after 25 minutes Du Tolt started a passing bout, the ball going from Watt to Bes- | ter who threw himself over.
