FANCY DRESS BALL.
HILLCREST SCHOOL. MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Colourful parades in orderly fashion were a feature ol - Hie llillcrest School children’s fancy dress ball held in Pearson's Hall on Friday evening. Over 150 children were on the floor and parents and friends taxed the seating accommodation to capacity. The costumes worn were varied and original, their bright colouring mingling vividly with the decorative scheme in streamers in the school colours of blue and gold, relieved by greenery and festoons of balloons. The popular cowboy and pirate costumes were much in evidence, together with expressions of recent events in the Coronation and in aviation, and a touch of comedy was noticed here and there. The Liny tots displayed their love of expression in song and action in the prettily arranged dances, “We’ll hire a horse,” ‘ Sec our hands,” and “I see you." Spectators were delighted with a portrayal of the playette, “Fair Rosie,” hy ihe smaller children, Ihe principal parts being taken by: Margaret Norris, Princess; Shirley Richardson. Good Fairy; Marie Metcalte, Wicked Fairy; Brian Bennett, Prince. The older children showed their accomplishments in delightful dancing of the recognised scores of the la rinka, valeta, log cabin, twoslep and in waltzes. An exhibition of Highland dancing by Joan Miller and Peggy McMiken was much enjoyed. The happy spirit which prevailed throughout was due in a large measure lo (he wonderful co-operation between the children and the teaching staff. Praise is due to the headmaster, Mr W. Sullivan, and his assistants for the splendid organisation of Hie dances and the line display given so happily by the children. A delicious supper was served to children, ihe arrangements being effectively cared for by the committee of the Parents and Friends’ Association. After supper the floor was available for the adults, and an enjoyable evening concluded with a dance. ‘he children In fancy costume bow y »la,l h | I °,"' L na, ’ Cl ' ,; Erlc Ashton, Cow- ■ Ala , n Weaken, Wood Kir; Hex Bcarlp nr„w!i B^‘ n , “'■"■■-’lt.
