The Prime Minister, Mr Chamberlain, who is spending a holiday in Sunderland, lias been telephoned several times by the Foreign office and informed of all developments. The Times in a leading article warns its readers that it must not be forgotten that Britain, the United States and France, who are acting In closo touch with one anotner, have important interests in the Far East which they are bound to protect. A message from Singapore -says the first battalion of the Middlesex Regiment is to embark for Hongkong immediately a ship is available. The first battalion of the second Punjabs is standing by.
