A FIERCE BOMBARDMENT. TROOPS POURIN'G INTO TOWN. United Press Assn.—Elec. TeL Copyright. SHANGHAI, Aug. 15. Shanghai was raked by heavy fire from Japanese anti-aircraft guns to-day when 3U Chinese bombers attacked the Japanese headquarters and strategic points at 8 a.m. The Chinese then headed for the Yangtse estuary, which they bombarded fiercely in an effort to prevent the landing of Japanese reinforcements. However, two passenger boats filled with naval reinforcements disembarked the Japanese on the wharves in the eastern district, the Japanese warships keeping up a steady barrage to cover the landing. Chinese troops are pouring Into Chapel. The troop trains are unloading at the north station. Three seaplanes catapulted from the Japanese cruiser Idumo bombed the Yangstepoo and Ilongkew Park districts. H.M.S. Duncan has anchored off the Shanghai Club, and 4000 British women and children are expected to be evacuated. The first batch of too is on board the liner Rajputana.
