SEAMAN TO LIEUTENANT. MATAMATA BOY’S CAREER. (By Telegraph. —Pres* Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The announcement that actlng-Petty Officer Thomas lan Harray, a New Zeai land rating, had been selected for promotion to the rank of sub-lieutenant In the Royal Navy from September, was made by the Minister of Defence, th® Hon. F. Jones, to-night. Petty Officer Harray Is the son of Mr John Harray, of Te Pol, Matamata. He was born on March 3, 1916, and entered the training ship Philomel on July 15, 1932, as boy, second class. He was given accelerated advancement to ordinary seaman on September 1, 1933. and to able seaman on December 1, 1934. He will Join a number of other acting-sub-lleutenants of about his own age who are to undergo course® for the rank of lieutenant at Greenwich College and other naval schools.
