SHAKESPEARE OR BACON?
OLD CONTROVERSY REVIVED. OPENING OF TOMB URGED. SIGNED ELEGIES IN A GRAVE. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel Copyright. LONDON, Aug. 12. Believing that the tomb of the poet Edmund Spenser in Westminster Abbey holds tlie solution of the ShakespeareBacon controversy, the Bacon Society is seeking permission to open it. it is claimed that when Spenser was buried liis fellow poets placed signed elegies in the grave, and it Is hoped that one will be found signed by Shakespeare hut in Bacon’s handwriting. The Dean of Westminster is willing lo accede to the request—provided that a sufficient number of literary people recommend Hie opening of the tomb —on the grounds of historical interest.
