AUCKLAND, Wednesday.

There has been a substantial advance In the local price of potatoes and present values are the highest lor about two years.

Potatoes—Following a sharp advance in the South Island in the price of potatoes, local values for whites cow range from £lO 15s to £ll a ton. through store, a rise of las on the week, while reds are 17s 6d dearer at from £ll 5s to £ll 15s a ton.

Onions. —Prices for local supplies are unchanged at 16s per cwt. Fowl Wheat. —The position remains steady at the unaltered through store price of from 7s 3d to 7s 5d a bushel.

Maize. —There has been no alteration over tlie week in the through store quotations, which remain at from 6s 5d to 6s 7d a bushel.

Barley.—A Arm market is ruling for barley and prices for clipped are 2d higher than last week, current through store rates being 6s 8d a bushel. Unclipped is selling at 6s 3d a bushel.

Oats and Chaff. —There is a steady market for South Island chaff and local prices are maintained at last week’s level of about £lO a ton, through store. Only a limited inquiry Is being made for oats. There has been a slight reduction in the through store value, which is Id lower at 5s 3d a bushel.

Bran and Pollard.—Local prices for Australian pollard have been advanced a further 5s a ton. The current value is from £lO 15s to £ll a ton, through store. The value, fixed by the Wheat Committee remains at £7 a ton, with supplies extremely short. There is a fairiy steady inquiry for bran at the unchanged rate' of about 26 15s a ton, through store. OTOROHANGA MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report having held their usual stock sale at Otorohanga yesterday, when the yarding of cattle comprised mo-stly fresh-condi-tioned Jersey cows, with boners Jn usual numbers, the majority of which were only of medium quality, but good prices resulted. Only a few pens of sheep wcro forward, quotations showing little alteration. A good yarding of pigs sold under keen competition. Killable Jersey steers made £9 Is; light fat cows and heifers, £5 15s to 26 Is; killable oows, £4 10s to £5 8s; fresh-conditioned Jersey empty cow's, 23 5s to £4 2s; boner cows, £2 10s to £3; poorer conditioned, 25s to £2 2s; young dairy cows, £7 to £7 15s; cows! later calvers, £4 to £6; medium quality heifers, £7 to £8; more backw'ard, £4 10s to £5 10s. Sheep: Fat hoggets 28s to 29s 9d. Pigs: Maiden sows, £3 10s to £4 2s 6d; store pigs, 33s to 38s 6d; smaller, 26s to 30s; slips 21s to 245. ’ PRIOEB AT HIKUTAIA. The Farmers* Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held their fortnightly stook sale at Hlkutaia yesterday, when a good yarding of cattle oame forward, the entry including the advertised herd of Jersey and Jersey cross cows, offered on aooount of Mr W. E. Patterson, of lliku&l. The cattle, which came forward in good condition met with particularly brisk competition from a keen bench of buyers, a good sale resulting. The 83 oows sold averaged £lO. Best Jersey and Jersey cross cows, August calvers, made £l2 to £l3 ss; Others, £9 15s to £11; later calvers, £8 to £9; aged and inferior, £5 to £6; Jersey springing heifers, £8 10s to £9 ss; medium fat cows, £5 15s to £6 15s; fat Jersey cows, £4 10s to £5 10s; boner cows, £2 10s to £3 9s; Weaner pigs, 12s to 14s. VALUES AT OTOROHANGA. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Hamilton, report as follows on their Otorohanga stock sale held yesterday: In neither the fat nor dairy cattle section was there anything of outstanding quality yarded. TTie entry, however, of medium ox and cow beef, and of store and boner oows was fairly large. These all sold well and prices compared about equal with the sharp advance at other centres over the last week. Realisations for dairies were satisfactory considering the class of cattle handled, and practically all these «old. Light fat bullocks mado £9 13s to £ll 3s; medium fat Jersey cows, £4 15s to £6; unfinished, £4 5s to £4 15s; heavy stares, £3 2s 6d to £3 17s 6d; boners, £2 5s to £3; good types •dairy cows, £7 15s to £9; others, £6 to £7; backward inferior, to £5 15s. Pigs met with a remarkably good sain; almost the entire yarding comprised stores and weaners and comparatively heavy numbers were penned. Prices even improved upon llio advanced quotations of last week. Oood storo pigs mado £1 15s to £2 3s; medium, £1 11s to £1 14s; slips, 2 is to 28s; weaners, good, up to 235; small, 16s to 21s. A number of pens of hoggets comprised the sheep enlrv. Bidding was brisk with resultant values pleasing lo vendors. Ewe hoggets made up lo £t 16s; 100 snia'l sold at 255; otiier lots made from 24s 6d to 30s 3d.
