VISIT TO UNITED STATES. TRADE TREATY DISCUSSIONS. DOMINION LEGISLATION DEFENDED United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright WASHINGTON. August 10. The New Zealand Minister of Labour, Mr H. T. Armstrong, told a representative of the Australian Associated Press to-day that lie will investigate industrial relationships and management. during his visit to the United States and Canada and will continue the discussions regarding a trade treaty between New Zealand and America. In Washington. Mr Armstrong will consult various Ministers, particularly the Secretary of Labour, Miss Frances Perkins. He has also arranged for an interview with Mr John Lewis, of the Committee for Industrial Organisation. “ The unhappy relationships between labour and capital which I have already seen In New York seem to me to be lamentable,” said Mr Armstrong. The Minister said he felt that the success of New Zealand's system of conciliation and arbitration was its own strongest justification. He was convinced that seasonal exchanges ol dairy products and fruits would provide an excellent beginning for a mutually satisfactory treaty between New Zealand and America. He proposed to pursue his inquiries on those lines. lle expects to study mass production methods at tyetroit, and feels that much can be learned from America in spite of unhappy labour relationships. f Mr Armstrong will sail for Auckland by the Aorangi on September 1.
