AUSTRALIAN MINERS. OWNERS’ TERMS REJECTED. LITTLE HOPE OF SETTLEMENT. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrigiu SYDNEY, Aug. 11. The conference between the parties to the dispute in the coal-mining Industry has been further adjourned until to-morrow. It Is reliably reported that the owners offered a 7$ per cent, increase In pay to contract miners, and 5 per cent, to day labourers, which the miners’ delegates rejected. The prospects of a settlement now are regarded as not so hopeful. At least 4000 miners are Idle owing to*the strikes on the northern, southern and western fields. BTRIKEB AT TEXTILE MILLS. The police with gas bombs dispersed) 150 girls at a factory at Peterborough, Ontario. Several were Injured. The Mayor of the town was beaten when he tried to interfere. The office superintendent of a mill In Montreal was' severely beaten by strike sympathisers when he attempted T to enter the building.
