TECHNICAL BOARD
CONSOLIDATION POLICY, j AMALGAMATION OF SCHOOLS. i A decision not to be represented at the conference of Technical College Boards was reached at a meeting of the Hamilton Technical College Board of Governors last evening. Those present were: Mr S. B. Sims (chairman), Mr W. Fraser (principal), Mrs S. B. Sims, and Messrs C. Nisbett, H. B. Hall, B. 11. Andrews, W. Rothwell, and F. A. SnellMr Fraser mentioned tlie matter of consolidation as a remit that might be submitted to the conference. He outlined the policy of the Education Department in refusing country pupils boarding and travelling allowances to attend a Technical School, which was not the nearest to their homes. In many cases the children received tuition in the smaller centres as complete as that offered at the larger schools. Mr Sims said that if the restriction was lifted it might mean the closing of some of the smaller institutions. He t.'iought that the re- i mit could be sent to the conference j without having a delegate present. i No reply had been received from j the Minister of Education regarding , the future of secondary education in Hamilton. Mr Fraser stated that two teachers would bo leaving at the ' end of the year, and in view of the 1 indefinite information available in regard to tlie amalgamation proposal, j it might -be difficult to fill the vaean- j cies. Mr G. A. Barrell, M.P., had notified the board at ils last meeting that it would be at least two years I before the reorganisation would be made, in view of the building of the new school. It was pointed out by Mr Sims that it would be 'possible to separate the boys and girls at the end of the year.
