BOXING.
RAYNER DEFEATS GILDO. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday. In a 12-round boxing contest tonight. Clarrie Rayner, Blenheim, took a clear points decision over Young Gildo, Philippine Islands. Both scaled 9st. 81b. The Filipino fought only spasmodically, seeming to be content to allow Rayner to make the fight. Rayner took full advantage of all opportunities, scoring particularly well In breakaways and with swift, unexpected leads. Gildo accelerated over the concluding three rounds, but Rayner traded punch for punch in an exciting finish to maintain his lead on points.
