THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM. BEATEN IN SYDNEY. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright SYDNEY, August 10. In the hockey championships today the match between Queensland and Western Australia resulted In a draw, neither side scoring. South Australia defeated Tasmania 3—o. and New South Wales drew with Victoria I all. The New Zealand team played a Sydney Metropolitan team at the Hurstville Oval, which the manager, Mr Gracie. described as the best his men had played on in Australia. Sydney Metropolitan won 4—2. Both New Zealand's goals were obtained by Houghton. Outstanding N a w Zealanders were Robertson and Clark. The Hurstville Council gave a reception to the New Zealanders and provided them with a motor lour of the south coast. This is the second defeat sustained by the New Zealand team in Australia, having been beaten in its last match by New South Wales by 3 goals to 1. The side will play the only test against Australia next Saturday at Sydney.
