ESCAPE FROM GAOL.

PRISONER AT LARGE. FAST MOTOR-CAR MISSING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Wednesday. Charles Frederick Murphy, a halfcaste" Maori, who was. convicted yesterday on charges of theft and false pretence, disappeared from the Gisborne gaol overnight. He was last seen by the gaoler, Mr Davies, at 11.30 p.m. and the cell was found empty at 6.30 a.m. to-day. It is believed that Murphy cut his way out of the cell with a hacksaw, lie was deck 3d an habitual criminal last week at Napier and has previously converted cars. The fact that a fast car is missing from a Gisborne residence" this morning is linked with Murphy's disappearance. The car is a Y 8 Ford sedan, number 58,864. The escapee left an overcoat behind and was wearing blue serge". His height is 5 feet 8 inches, he is slightly built, his left leg is shorter than the right and a fingernail on the left hand is deformed. AGAIN IN CUSTODY. RECAPTURED AT RUATORIA. (By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Wednesday. The escaped prisoner has been recaptured at Ruatoria. He was in possession of a motor car which had been taken from Gisborne. _
