DEADLOCK REACHED
HUNTLY MINES DISPUTE. MEN UPHOLD THEIR DEOISION. CASE ONE FOR THE MINISTER. (Special to Times.) HUNTLY, Wednesday. A deadlook has been reached In the dispute at the McDonald Mine. Two mines In the Huntly coalfields, the McDonald and the Glen Afton, were Idle yesterday, the former as the result of a car.penter being given a bricklayer’s work to do and the latter because there had been a transference of a man from one mine to the other. This morning a meeting was held at the McDonald Mine and the men decided to uphold their resolution of yesterday. Speaking to a Waikato Times representative this morning, one of the miners concerned said the dispute was over one man and the case was one of victimisation. A carpenter, living near the McDonald Mine had been given bricklaying work there and demanded bricklaying wages. On his claim the management, transferred his work to the Glen Afton Mine. Thus he had to walk from his home to the new position, a considerable distance, every day. The miners cannot ascertain the outcome of the dispute but they consider the matter is one for the Minister of Mines. No decision has been reached as to when the men will resume work.
