DEATH IN LONDON.
MISS HELEN HUGHES. WELL-KNOWN AUSTRALIAN GIRL. United press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, August 10. News has been received in Sydney of the death in London of Miss Helen Hughes, aged 22, daughter of Mr W. M. Hughes and Dame Mary Hughes, after a severe operation. Miss Hughes went lo England for the Coronation festivities. Most of her early associations were among the higher circles in Britain, and during her girlhood, when her father was Prime Minister of Australia, great interest was shown in her by Queen Mary. The cablegram from London states that Miss Hughes died at 2 a.m. yesterday at a nursing home at Brondesbury, near London. The operation was for a perforated duodenal ulcer. It was performed by Dr. Palmer. Recently Miss Hughes had her teeth attended to and had seemed to be in better health. Officials at Australia House have cabled full particulars to Mr Hughes and have asked for his instructions as to the burial of his daughter.
