OFFICER SHOT
MURDER OF JAPANESE. SAID TO BE UNARMED. ALLEGATIONS AGAINST CHINESE. United Press Assn.—Eiec. Tel. Copyright. (Received August 11, 3.15 p.m.) SHANGHAI, August 10. The Japanese version of the shooting at Hungjao Aerodrome is that Lieutenant Isao Ohyama was being driven in a car along Monument Road when the Chinese Peace Preservation Corps shot him dead, firing from all sides. The fate of the driver, Seaman Yozo Saito, Is not known. The Chinese alleged that Lieutenant Ohyama defied the prohibition to enter the aerodrome and shot down a sentry, after which the Chinese fired in self-defence, but this Is untrue. TOKIO, August 10. The Ohyama case swamps all other in the news. The Navy Office declares that he was unarmed. The driver’s revolver was slung behind him while he was driving. It Is admitted that a dead Chinese soldier was found nearby, but it is alleged that the Chinese placed him there to substantiate their assertion that Lieutenant Ohyama shot a sentry. CONTROL OF PROVINCEB. THE JAPANESE IN CHINA. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, August 10. Japan has achieved her immediate aims in North China. She now virtually controls the provinces of Hopei and Chahar. She is likely to create another puppet State, which would give her a freer hand in North China. The British Foreign Office believes that no major war is now likely to develop, although it Is expected that clashes between the Chinese and Japanese will continue for some time.
