SOCIAL EVENING.

FUNCTION AT HUNTLY. TENTH BIRTHDAY DANCE. A very pleasant social evening and dance was held in the Parish Hall. Jluntly, on Saturday, when the Huntly branch of the St. John Ambulance celebrated its tenth birthday. The hall was tastefully decorated in the Association's colours, black and white. There was an attendance of about 150, including several visitors, and members were present from the Onehunga, Hamilton and Glen Afton Divisions, including District Commissioner 11. D. Cold) and District Officer Huston, of Hamilton; Superintendent Thompson and Cadet Superintendent McCarthie, of Onehunga, and Superintendent Griffiths, of Glen Afton. Enjoyable dance music was played by the Elite Orchestra, and Mrs B. Kinson gave appreciated extras. Corporal F. Wilkinson was master of ceremonies. Superintendent G. Green and Lady Superintendent E. Sherwin were tlie host and hostess, and Private J. Moodie announced the guests as they arrived. Before I lie dance commenced, Corporal Wilkinson read apologies for unavoidable absence from Commissioner G. .1. Tunks and Corporal officers of Hie Auckland Division; also from the Frank lon Railways Division. Superintendent G. Green spoke on the history of the Division since its formation lon years ago. District Commissioner Cold) also said a few words in I lie interests of the Brigade, and presented photographs to the competition

team that represened the Division at the competitions for 1937, the team having won for the year the South Auckland, Hamilton, Auckland, and Gaze Cups, and the Taniwha Shield. Certificates for first aid and home | nursing were presented to members; j also the medallions and labels. Two I service chevrons were presented to i two of the nursing sisters, Misses H. ; Dodds and M. Moves, for three years’ attendance.

District Officer Huston then presented Superintendent Green with a beautiful clock from the members of the brigade, the gathering singling “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Superintendent Thompson briefly addressed the assembly. Supper was served by the ladies, after which the Ladies' Nursing Division presented the birthday cake, which was accepted by Superintendent Green, to the men’s division. The cake was then cut.

Lady Superinlendent Sherwin made a short speech and presented Mrs G. Green with a silver cake-dish from the Nursing Division.

During the evening songs were given by Miss L. Kinson and Lady Superintendent Sherwin, an Irish jig by Miss M- Jlarmsworth, and elocution by Mrs E. L. Fraser, all of which were greatly enjoyed.
