WANDERERS AGAIN
WIN OVER GLEN MASSEY. THREE GOALS IN FIRST SPELL. On a day when a strong wind was of great assistance to an attaoklng side, neither teams In the Hamilton Wanderers-Glen Massey game at Seddon Park on Saturday made adequate use of this advantage in their turn. Glen Massey were unfortunate when In the second spell the wind abated considerably. The score was a fair Indication of the trend of play but with accurate shooting higher scoring would have been done by both teams. Steward was as sound as ever in the Wanderer’s vanguard, while In the half-line McCall, a newcomer, displayed good judgment and his effective placements opened up many opportunities for the forwards. His *defence was also of a high order. Webster, in goal and Fisher and McLean at full-back were a trio of solid defenders for Wanderers. Gorman played useful football for Glen Massey and his goal was the result of fine opportunism. Brown at left back was very reliable. The teams were:— Glen Massey.—Montford, Beaver, I. Brown, Lang, G. Brown, Martin, Crockott, J. Corniss, T. Corniss, Gorman, Lees. Wanderers.—Webster, Fisher, MoLean, McCall, Caldwell, Coombes, Clarkson, C. Crabb, Stewart, Robertson, D. Crabb. Wanderers opened with a strong wind and Clarkson nearly scored from a hard drive and then G. Cratob was wide with a difficult shot. A splendid oorner toy D. Crabb gave Stewart a chance but the ball went behind. From the goal-kick Glen Massey went right up-fleld but the Wanderers’ defence sent them back and from a throw-in Stewart had a wonderful opportunity tout was well wide. Two Quick Goals. Glen Massey went to the attack again tout a shot by Gorman was outside and 'from the goal-klok MoLean drove Glen Massey right back and when D. Cratob broke clear away a goal looked certain but he lost the opportunity by missing with a poor drive. The score was opened soon after when C. Crabb, receiving from Caldwell, guided the ball home. Almost Immediately Robertson placed a fine shot Into the top of the net. Stewart nearly repeated this effort and only a good save by Montford kept the Wanderers out.—Wanderers 2, 'Glen Massey 0. A long Kick toy Caldwell nearly spelt disaster for Glen Massey but Beaver and Brown relieved. A penalty to Glen Massey saw Gorman find the net but an Infringement occurred and Glen Massey failed with the second effort. A long kick by MoLean came to C. Cratob and the lnslde-rlght nearly goaled with a hard, low drive. An acourate cross from D. Crabb to C. Crabb put Glen Massey In a dangerous position but Glen Massey conceded a oorner and then j^elieyftd. Wanderers came again and Montford Just pushed a hard shot from D. Crabb out. It was not long before Caldwell lobbed a long drive past Montford.—Wanderers 3, Glen Massey 2. A free kiok to Wanderers was not taken advantage of and Gorman cleared well. The end of the spell found Wanderers attacking. Boore In Becond Spell. The strong wind had abated when the teams resumed. A Glen Massey attack found Webster safe tout he was well beaten a little later when Gorman headed-in cleverly.—-Wanderers 3, Glen Massey 1. Wanderers replied with a rush by Stewart and C. Crabb, the latter Just clearing the oross-bar with a hard drive. Glen Massey oame again tout Fisher drove them baok. A oorner to Wanderers saw the ball go from Stewart to McCall who almost goaled. Crahb then went very close but Stewart was ruled off-side and Glen Massey took the offensive until MoLean drove them back. Wanderers stormed the Glen Massey goal once more but were unable to score. A long kick by Caldwell saw C. Crabb handily placed but Brown put Glen Massey out of danger. Lang then retired with an injury to his ankle. Cratob rushed Montford Into the goalmouth tout was penalised for hands. Glen Massey then transferred play to the other end Where Webster effeoted a spectacular save In the faoe of strong opposition. A drive from wide out toy Gorman was well wide and then Glen Massey lost two splendid chances close In. Fisher and McLean covered up well when Massey were away again. With practically an open goal Lees looked sure to score when Glen Massey came to the attack again but McLean oame across fast to clear and the game ended: Wanderers 3 Glen Massey i Mr E. R.
