The Stars forwards were breaking the faster from the line-outs and twl jg Gillespie was oaught while in possession even though Dovi was unloading quickly. Carroll, fielding a short pass from the base of ihe scrum, kloked upfleld but the wind carried the ball dead' It was Cooper who was responsible for carrying Stars to an attaok again as he dribbled through, then handled to feature Jn a fine dash but he was without support. Lissette baffled the opposition with ■strategy and made ground before being pulled down when support was lacking. A brief period of central play followed from which Holloway broke away from a scrum to lead Old Boys to the attaok once again. The first determined Stars’ attaok for some time was staged when Wards received from L. Kelly and oaitpaoed half the field before tumbling with Carroll entwining his legs. Cooper maintained the attaok but when Stars heeled oleanly from the sorum the Old Boys’ line met the attacking baoks man for man In solid tackling. Co-oper was a fraction wide with a free kick. Old Boys were throwing the ball about In attraotive style now but still the Stars forwards, aided by the wind, made a formidable barrier. When endeavouring to clear, Gillespie miss-kicked and the ball flew behind him and the bounce beat Paterson. Gear, always an attender wais up on the next bounoe and buffeted his way aoross the line to soore. Cooper’s kiok lacked elevation. Old Boys 20, Stars 11.
