THROWN HEAVILY. CLERK OF THE COURSE. COLLISION AT TROTS. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The clerk of the course, Mr R. A. Ferguson, was seriously Injured during the running of the last race at I lie N««w Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting at Addington yesterday. He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. Late this afternoon Mr Ferguson had recovered consciousness, but h* was still on the seriously ill list. A fracture of the skull is suspected. and a-half furlongs In the International Handicap, Village. Guy broke a hopple and in drifting back through I the field caused Grand Mogul to fall. Grand Mogul got up and galloped through the straight without his driver. As Grand Mogul was passing the show grounds fence Mr Ferguson, mounted on -his galloper, endeavoured to catch him. The horses collided and Mr Ferguson was thrown heavily on the ground. Willow Wave then became involved in the mishap and the driver, S. A. Edwards, was thrown out. Edwards and Stewart, the driver of Grand Mogul, escaped with a shaking. Grand Mogul was not injiured. Mr Ferguson, who is regarded as a master horseman, is huntsman to the Brackenfleld Hunt, and some years ago was appointed clerk of the course at Addington. THREE INQUIRIES. METROPOLITAN MEETING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. In the Introductory Handicap, a protest was lodged by R. Townley, driver of Lady Sonoma, against first position being awarded to Great Admiral, on the grounds that he paced at the finish. The stewards decided from the evidence, and from their own observations, that the protest should be dismissed. After the finish of the Advance Handicap an inquiry was held to consider allegations of interference by C. Tasker, driver of Full Hand, with Harlequin, who was driven by J. Young. After hearing the evidence it was resolved to caution Tasker for careless driving. F. G. Holmes, driver of Graham Direct in the August Handicap, was charged under Rule 310 of the Rules of Trotting with not driving his horse I to win. After the evidence of the j owner, Mr J. Westerman, and of Holmes had been heard, it was de-' ciderl to accept their explanation.
