OBITUARY.
MRS. CAROLINE JOWSEY. (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Saturday. The death occurred to-day of Mrs. Caroline Jowsey, aged S 5 years, wife of the late Colonel Thomas Jowsey, who commanded the Third New Zealand Roughriders in South Africa during the Boer War. Mrs Jowsey was born in England, Inter coming to New Zealand. For over 20 years she was matron of the Timaru Hospital and in 1902 she and he'r husband went to Christchurch and later to Auckland, where Colonel Jowsey was manager of tho United Services Club. A few years later they went to Waihl. The late' Colonel Jowsey took a prominent part in military affairs in New Zealand. For his services in South Africa he was awarded the Queen’s Medal with five clasps and in 1901 lie received the C.M.G. The late Mrs. Jowsey is survived by an only son. Mr. Hugh Jowsey, of Kihikihi. who also served in the Boer War. There are eislit grand-children aud three great grand-children.
