Copyright LONDON, August C». “ The Board of Trade, representatives of shipowners and of officers’ and seamen’s organisations, after an extensive inquiry, have agreed to regulations to abolish * sea slums,’ ” says Hector Bywater in the Daily Telegraph. “ The use of the forecastle for seamen’s berths henceforth Is to be forbidden, and accommodalioai must be provided amidships or aft, as the forecastle often Is a death trap in the event of a collision. “ Bathrooms witli hot showers are to be compulsory. All foreign-going ships of 2500 tons or over must have a hospital. Other regulations pro\ide for minimum standards in mess rooms, ventilation, lighting and locker accommodation.’’
