FLIGHT BY DAY
ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. CLIPPER LEAVES IRELAND. TO STUDY RADIO SYSTEM. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, August 6. The Pan-American Airways Clipper left Foynes, Ireland, at 4.19 a.m. today for Newfoundland. Captain Harold Gray, commander of the Clipper, in an interview prior lo his departure, said the real objects of the daylight crossing of the Atlantic was to study the working of the radio ■system during daylight, it would be necessary to work on a different wavelength. Captain Gray said ho hoped to investigate a number of things on the trip which should yield valuable data. " There Is a patch in mid-Atlantic,” he said, " which we have not seen yet because hitherto we have covered it In darkness." A STEADY HEAD WIND. ENCOUNTERED BY THE CLIPPER. SLIGHT RAIN IN ATLANTIC. who apologised for remarks he made before a club meeting in London referring to the Duke of Windsor’s funeral arrangements for the late King George' V. The Duke received the apologetic reply after a London newspaper quoted him as referring to Sir Gerald's remarks as "a rotten story.”
