The Philadelphia hospital authorities obtained an order from the Court for Ihe performance of a caesarean operation on Mrs. Mary Boccowsini, aged 27, wife of a labourer, immediately after her death. She was suffering from tubercular meningitis. The woman’s husband earlier had refused his permission, tout later lie consented. The Court ruled that the unborn child had Ihe right to life. The woman died at an early hour this morning. The operation was performed a few seconds later and the baby was delivered alive. BABY EXPECTED TO LIVE. BREATHING WITH DIFFICULTY. NO FEAR OF INFECTION. (Received August 7, 11.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 6. The baby girl is expected to live, although she weighs only 41bs. She is breathing with difficulty, and it has been found necessary to place her in an oxygen tent. Tlie mother’s temperature at the Instant. of death was 109.1 degrees, and physicians marvelled that the baby was not parboiled, but they do not fear tuberculosis infection from flic mother.
