GOLF NOTES.

HAMILTON LADIES’ CLUB. WEDNESDAY’S MATCH. (By “All Square.”) Last Wednesday was the first fine match day for several weeks. The wind was a bit troublesome but not bad etoough to warrant the poor soorIng for the August monthly medal and the qualifying round for the Horton Cup competition. Last year In this round we were able to report an excellent standard of golf, net 80’s being the last to qualify and six playtfrs netted par figures or better. On Wednesday Miss A. Coventry with a net 75 was the best score, Mrs Arthur net 76 and Mrs H. McDonald net 77 were the' only scores below net 78. The links were in splendid condition but players evidently missed their waterproofs and umbrellas and relieved of the heavy weight thety could not keep still when taking shots. Players who had lately been playing consistently well did no good on Wednesday. Three* net 86’s were the last to qualify. Mrs N. Holden and Miss Betty Clark, who have Just recently earned handicaps, were among those to qualify. Ringer Competition. If the number of "ringer” oards returned is an Indication of the scoring the competition Is going to be very keen. Mrs O’Connor “ringed” a 2 at the 6tli hole the other day, a dlstanoe of 270 yards. Miss M. Wilklson scored a 3 at the Bth. Already she has several 2’s on the sheet. Mrs F. Mander has also her usual number of birdies and eagles. A Saturday player, Miss M. Campbell, won the third extra L.G.U. medal In the silver division with a net 77. Very few cards were returned In this medal on acoount of bad weather conditions. Mrs F. Luckle and Mrs 0. L. Mao Diarmid tied with net 74’s in the bronze division but Mrs Luckle won on a recount over the last 9 holes. Handloap Reductions. Another Thursday playeto, Mrs Gordon Hamilton, earned a handloap last week and will no doubt settle down to serious play. Mrs H. Hallett has reduced her handicap by 2 strokes. Miss B Smith is down to a 32
