The value of a municipal theatre In encouraging local productions Is proved by the fact that for Its forthcoming season of “Rio Rita”—seven nights and a matinee—me invercargm operatic Society Is to pay £76 for the Clvlo , Theatre, which works out at less than £lO a performance, including two Saturdays. The Wellington Operatic Society will stage “The Quaker Girl” this month, the season commencing next Thursday. Mr !W. S. Wauchop is producer. Hamiltonian’s Success In Wellington. Dancing at the recent National Eisteddfod in Wellington Miss Joan Clements, daughter of Mr J. A. Clements, of Hamilton East, was placed first in song and dance, and operatic dance (restricted), second in toe, character and operatic dances, and commended in character story and toe (restricted) dances. Miss Clements actually tied with Miss Bobbie Scott, of Wellington, for the championship Cup, but as the rules prescribe that in the event of a tie In aggregate points the championship shall be decided on championship points. Miss Scott gained the championship by a margin of one point. The Midnight Follies In Hamilton. This revue, which is being produced by Miss Mavis Laurenson, is to be staged at the Theatre Royal in the near future. There are 90 performers, and the revue should be very enjoyable with its snappy dances and gay scenes and costumes. The Whistling Waltz with its clever bird imitations will- be one of the many “ A Runaway Girl ” at Dargavllle. The Dargavllle Operatic Society has “ A Runaway Girl ” in rehearsal.
