HARRIER RACING.
CHRISTIAN YOUTH CLUB. GOOD RUN IN STRENUOUS TRIAL. An excellent attendance of 21 runners turned out last Saturday for the run from Mr and Mrs Boyne’s residence, 7 Oakley Avenue, held by th’o Christian Youth Movement Harrier Club. Three packs moved off at five minute intervals to contest one of the most strenuous trails yet followed. From Oakley Avenue down River Road the course swung away from the river along Clarkin Road towards Fairfield School zlg-zagglng across fields and mud flats around Fairfield. Then to add variety some, barbed wire fences and blackberry clumps were negotiated on the way back along Fifth Avenue and Boundary Road to finish in Oakley Avenue. A. Hamilton cleared the obstacles well to win by twenty yards from 11. Hughes with N. Polglase a close third. A steady little runner, C. Bogue, was again fourth, a position he has kept for several runs lately. A. Hamilton has been showing good form lately and has come In ahead several times this‘season, sharing the honours with B. Coombs and I*. Overheu, both of whom did not start this week. Good form has also been shown by M. Dean and H. Cook. To-day’s meeting of the club was arranged as a teams’ relay race, the corner of Bryce Street and Victoria Street being the meeting point and the Maeroa Methodist Church, the actual starting point.
