ACROSS TASMAN
AWATEA AND MONTEREY. WILL THERE BE A RACE? SPECULATION IN AUSTRALIA. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received August 6, li a.m.) SYDNEY, August 6. The Morning Herald says the shipping circles are speculating whether the Awatea and the Monterey, which will leave Auckland to-day will race' across the Tasman. The Morning Herald adds: “To Australians and New Zealanders the speed record for the Tasman has had great significance ever since sailing ship days, and all would like to see it recaptured by a British ■ship. It should only be a matter of time before the Awatea secures the honour. A record crossing this week-end, however, Is unlikely, as the Tasman is in a turbulent mood.”
