DRAINAGE WORK.
IHAMEB VALLEY AREA. (Special to Times.) TE) AROHA, Thursday. Mr F. E. Hughes presided at the August meeting or the Thames Valley Drainage Board to-day, Messrs. W. Hallet, J. P. Jensen, W. T. Dale. M. A. Carter. W. W. Dunn, A. J. Luxton, J. W. Hedley and H. A. Wagstaff, and the clerk, Mr H. Rowbotham. also being present. The clerk reported that on inspection of the Watharakeke Creek had been made by the chairman and himself, and It was found that wet weather was hampering the progress or the work In the creek itself. An Inspection of the localities for the proposed cuts had been made during the month by the chairman, clerk and Mr Luxton, with the Public Works foreman and settlers. Two cuts are regarded to be essential at Yarrall’s and Sealey’s. in the matter of the proposed Waitoa River Improvement Bill to come before the House of Representatives information had been received to the eiTect that the Department or Internal Affairs considered It to bo in order. A letter was read from the Taupiri Drainage Board stating It would be pleased to co-operate in any movement to form a Drainage Boards’ Association. The Department of l ands notified that the work of removing dead willows in the lower Waitoa River would commence in two weeks. SuDsldlsecr Labour. The Department of Labour, Wellington, wrote confirming the arrangement made with tMe actlng-Minlster of l.abour at Morrinsville in July, tMat a subsidy on the basis or £4 per week would be made available under the conditions outlined. Foromen’s Reports. Mr r. Stamlish. foreman of the Tlungahunga area, reported that the following drain clearing had been affected during the past month: Waihekau. from Ford’s to the end. Matamata township. -Foreman's, Livingston's and Weirs. Difficult conn trv was being experienced at Dalrymple’s outlet. Mr G. F. Johnson, in the Wattoa-Tatua-ntii Subdivision, reported that the clearing in The whole of his area had been completed, and all the men. with one o\ eeptlon. who had assisted in clearing slips, had been put off. Mr n d. Eastwood, foreman or the Wailioii Elstow Tahunn area reported that slips had been removed from a number or drains, the recent floods having brought down quantities of silt and canned numATcuajt aUda.
