PHYSICAL FITNESS.
TRAINING FOR CADETB. SOUTH AFRICAN PROPOSAL. Compulsory physical training In South African schools at an early date is foreshadowed by a circular sent to all schoolmasters by Defence Headquarters in Capetown, it is also intended to offer voluntary training facilities to members of the Active Citizen Force. These steps are the outcome of a report by the assistant director of medical services on tlie large number of hoys rejected as unfit for the Active Citizen Force. “We are anxious to build up the! condition of members of the Active I Citizen Force, and the physical train-! Ing will he on a voluntary basis at parades in addition to the non-continu- i ous training.” Hie officer commanding the Natal Command has explained. “The idea is to start a physical training course at the Military * College for the training of Instructors., Until then we want lo make use or eivitians for giving the necessary instruction.” it Is also hoped to obtain a physical training expert from the British Army. Later Is it intended to send a Permanent Force officer and two noncommissioned officers to take a course in the British Army. In regard to the sehools. circular* have been sent to schoolmasters to obtain their views on the feasibility of adding a clause in the cadet regulations for compulsory training for al* boys liable for cadet training.
