THE FRUIT SUBSIDY.
PROGRESS PAYMENT WANTED. GROWERS URGE FLAT RATE. (By Telegraph.— rreas Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Government's undertaking to assist fruitgrowers by making £40,000 (nailable to subsidise wages and costs incurred in connection with sales on the local market was discussed at the Fruitgrowers’ Federation conference to-day. it was decided to suggest to the Government that a flat rate per case be paid growers Irrespective of prices received. Hawke’s Ray and other districts in a similar position to he paid on half of last year's production. The conference also adopted a remit urging that a progress payment he made forthwith from the £40,000 to enable growers io retain their staffs.
