OAMARU DEFENDS CLIMATE. CAIRN TO MARK LATITUDE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OAMARU, Friday. In view of statements in northern newspapers giving tlie impression that Oamaru is in tlie frigid zone, the Oarnaru Borough Council yesterday decided to approach tlie Waitaki County Council for co-ope'ration in erecting a cairn on the main road near Oamaru marking the latitude 45 degrees, middle temperate zone. It is pointed out that Oamaru is 5 degrees nearer the equator than southernmost England and is actually warmer than many North Island towns of higher altitude.
