SPRING ADVANCES.
WATTLE IN BLOSSOM. PROFUSION OF BULBS. By the calendar, at least, August ts the first month of spring, and despite on inclement winter the yellow clumps of wattle blossom now brightening the river bank* and lakeside are well up to schedule, and looked particularly gay in yesterday’s sunshine. Many of the spring bulb flowers are already In bloom and tree blossom* are Just coming out. In the gardens the camellias should be making their appearance In a short time, while the flowering quince (Cvdonia Japonlca) and Japanese flowering plum (Prunus nume) are also In bud. The spiraeas, thunbergia (single) and floreplena (double) are coming out and there is already a good -show of daffodils and Jonquils. In the rockeries, anemones and the various coloured aubretia are out, as well as the blue litliospurnum prostratum, and there are even a few pansies and viola* to be seen. The native flowering trees are usually a little later, but there is one early pink manuka already blossoming near the traffic bridge.
