PERSONAL.
The Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Finance, is due in Auckland from his tour by the Mataroa on Friday next. He will be accorded a civic reception by the Auckland City Council on the evening of his arrival. Mr Peter Harvey, of Christchurch, who is touring the North Island, is visiting Pirongia. Messrs A. L. Lynskey (Wellington), P. Musick (Taumarunui), N. Hutton and A. R. E. Messenger (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs. D. F. Lumsden (Napier), S. Norris, J. Gilchrist, N. W. Stevens, A. Marsh (Wellington), 'G. Williams, W. 'Hart and A. McAlister (Auckland) are at the Midland Hotel. Mr. C. E. H. Quin, formerly of Otorohanga, and now acting-secretary to the Administration of Western Samoa at Apia, has been appointed to the Legislative Council and took his seat recently, being welcomed by the act-ing-Administrator, Mr. A. C. Turnbull, and other members. Mr G. McNamara, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, who recently attended an Empire conference in London which discussed cable rates throughout the British Commonwealth, will return to New Zealand by the Mataroa, arriving at Auckland on August 13. At the quarterly meeting of the To Aroha Fire Board Mr B. Coulter, M.P., was elected chairman. Mr Coulter referred to Mr R. L. Somers’ long term of service as chairman, and said tie had filled the position ably and well. Messrs W. Skegg and E. V. Tregear, insurance representatives, also paid a tribute to Mr Somers.
