RYVINGTON FRIESIANS. HIGH PRODUCTION. Ryvington Friesian Stud, the property of the estate of T. 0. Hodg'son, Is situated at Tamahere, just a few miles from Hamilton on well pastured land. At this Stud may be seen one of the finest Friesian (Herds in the Dominion, comprising nearly 200 head, built up by the use of carefully selected bulls. The herds are tested annually under the Group Herd Testing System and all records are made under every day conditions, no pampering being done. An examination of the test sheets proves the ooundness of the owners breeding programme, the stud holding a number of 6001 b. fat tecords. # Ryvington Stud secures its share of the prizes in the Show Ring, one of its notable successes being the winning of the 1937 South Auckland Championship with the attractive Herd Sire, Totara Pontiac Banner, a grandson of Rosevale 'King Sylvia and of Veeman Pontiac Price, who'se daughters Include- Totara Veeman Lulu, C.O.R. 946.7 81b fat as a Junior four-year-old New Zealand all breeds record for age. CHAMPION FRIESIANS WHEWELL BROS.’ FARM. Splendid pastures sheltered by many fine timber belts characterise the well-managed farm of Messrs Whewell Bros., of Tamahere. A precursory examination is enough to satisfy the visitor that this farm of 400 acres Is managed on sound progressive lines and that its owners fully believe in the most modern methods of farming for the obtaining of optimum results. It is perhaps as breeders of Friesian cattle that the name of Whewell Bros, is best known for their Bracken Stud was founded three years before the advent of the first Friesian Stud Book in 1911. Bracken Frleslans have been shown with outstanding success at the principal shows in the province, one of the present herd matrons being a former North Island champion and winner of the 100-gulnea gold cup at the Royal, while the senior herd sire ■ was champion at the Royal Show in Auckland in 1934. The farm at present is earning 1400 ewes besides the 120 head of cattle, pigs and several horses. Messrs Whewell Bros, have been breeders of stud Southdowns for many years, the flock being founded In 1928 with the sire Lake Farm L 3. Just recently the entire Pukengahu Stud from Mr A. L.
