CAMBRIDGE COURT.
AUGUBT SITTING. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday. Edgar H. Cochrane was proceeded against by Traffic Officer R. Metcalfe for operating a heavy motor vehicle on the Cambrldge-Pukekura Road in excess of the maximum weight for which the road is declared to be available. The Inspector stated that he weighed the lorry which was 1J tons over the maximum. A fine of £2, with costs 10s was imposed. Inspector Metcalfe also proceeded against Joseph R. James for operating a heavy motor vehicle on the Te Awamutu-Cambridgt main highway while carrying an excessive load. The Inspector said the lorry was carrying 3 tons of lime and the total was 5 tons or half a ton In excess of the road classification.—r Defendant was fined £l, with 12s costs. An unpaid taxi fare resulted in the appearance of a youth (20) who was charged with * obtaining credit by means of fraud. He was further charged with stealing a bicycle valued at £2 15s, the property of George Worms. He pleaded guilty to both charges.—Constable C. H. Maisey stated that the accused hired a taxi in Hamilton to drive him to Cambridge. On stopping at a local boardinghouse he said he would get the money, but failed to do so. In connection with the charge of theft, the constable said the vehicle was found at accused’s place of residence. For obtaining credit by fraud, the accused was placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay 14s 6d, the amount of the taxi fare, and 12s costs. On the second charge probation for one year was ordered together with tho payment of £1 to the owner of the bicycle. The magistrate agreed to the suppression of the accused’s name.
