OIL IN CALIFORNIA.
DEEPEST WELL IN WORLD. TAPPING OF RICH FIELD. SAN FRANCISCO. August 3. The deepest oil well in lhe world, tapping a new pool more than two miles below the surface, was opened to-day at Coallngn, Cnllfrtrnia. It is on lhe edge of the famous Kettlcman field, and geologists and oil experts agree that a new formation has been penetrated. This may open the richest field lapped since the original Kettleman discovery. Brought under control by the heaviest capping equipment ever installed In California, tlie well has an estimated initial production of 1500 barrels of oil a day. Natural gas is being produced at a rate of more than 20,000.000 cubic feet a day.
