BRITAIN AND ITALY.

A DESIRE FOR CO-OPERATION. EVACUATION OF BALEARIC ISLANDS RECOGNITION OF THE CONQUEST OF ABYSSINIA (Official Wireless). (Received August 4, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, August 3. It is believed that Mr Neville Chamberlain demands the Italian evacuation of the Balearic Islands and Morocco and the cessation of propaganda among Arabs, in return for recognition of the Abyssinian conquest. ‘ LONDON, August 3. The exchange of letters between Mr Chamberlain and Signor Mussolini is still the subject of much comment in the press. In British official circles the fact that the Italian Government freely accepts the view of the relations of the Powers with interests in the Mediterranean which Mr Eden expressed in a recent speech in the House of Commons, and reciprocates the British desire for a friendlier atmosphere, is welcomed as encouraging the hope that the Anglo-Italian declaration of January last will be permitted to have the full effect of improving the relations between the two countries.
