The Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, Bishop of Waikato, returned to Hamilton from Wellington this morning after attending a meeting of the Board of Theological Studies. Sir James Gunson is in Hamilton. Mr W. P. Endean, M.P. for Parnell, Is in Hamilton. Mr. H. C. Ross returned to Hamilton yesterday from a trip to Australia. Mr. J. H. Furniss, of Huntly. left last evening for a fortnight’s visit to the South Island. Mr Harvey Turner, of Auckland; returned by the Awatea yesterday from America, England and France, where he studied fruit marketing conditions. Messrs W. Mairs, S. Ronaldson, E. Hardy (Auckland), J. IR. Fairly, L. Hutchinson, G. J. Jordan (Wellington) and A. G. Wood (New Plymouth) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr F. Rodger, supervisor of the Wellington telegraph office, has been transferred to a similar position at Christchurch and took up his duties there this week. Mr George Crow, general manager of the Drapery and General Importing Company of New Zealand, Limited, (the D.1.G.), will retire in August of next year, after nearly 50 years in the company’s service. An arrival by the Awatea at Auckland from Sydney yesterday was Mr John Batten, son of Mr F. H. Batten, of Auckland, and a brother of Miss Jean Batten Mr Batten is a successful screen actor. The Very Rev. John A. Graham, who was Moderator of the reunited Church of Scotland in 1931, and who is one of the most prominent figures in the Church of Scotland, will visit Auckland within the next few days. The Rev. A. T. Bristed Page, vicar of Miramar and Seatoun, Wellington, is to retire' shortly because of illhealth and advancing years. He is to be suceedcd by the Rev. G. E. Willis, who is coming from England. Flying Officer G. R. White, who has been connected with the Palmerston North-Dunedin service of Union Airways, Limited, since its inception, has* been transferred to the company’s Auckland-Wellington service and will be stationed at Auckland. Mr E. J. Howard. M.P. for Christchurch South and Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives, and Mr F. W. Schramm, M.P. for Auckland East, are passengers by the Otranto, which left London on .July 17 and is due at Fremantle on August 17. Dr. H. L. Richardson, a graduate of Victoria University College, Wellington, who has been a member of the chemistry department of the Rothamsteai Experimental Station, England, since 1927, has been appo'nted adviser on soils and fertilisers to the National Agricultural Research Bureau, Nanking, _ China. The lion. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, who has been visiting Britain and Europe, is returning to 1 lie Dominion bv way of Canada.
